Life of Pi – boat is sinking ...

Sensationalist news, if someone has other priorities, then why waste time, a seat in college that too in a prestigious one like St Stephen’s? The vacated seat could be given to another deserving candidate who will probably cherish it lifelong rather than the guy who had other priorities. All the humbugs about the missing notes/drawings are kindergarten lies… because here, in our country there is no room for talent.

Suraj Sharma made his cinematic debut with Ang Lee’s Hollywood film ‘Life of Pi’ last week. But it seems to be academic trouble for the Life of Pi actor. First-year student of Philosophy at Delhi University’s St Stephen’s College, Suraj Sharma has been deprived of permission to appear in his first year semester exams. Formalities to take up an exam should be given to every student whoever he or she is. But guys talent too means a lot yar!

St Stephen’s College is doing the right thing, it is a good decision. Students who want to study should be serious about their commitments. And if someone denies to follow the norms of the college, they should take up correspondence courses that are available today.

The college authorities say that Suraj Sharma has been barred from writing the exam after he failed to submit assignments which he missed. College Principal, Mr. Valson Thampu claims that the actor had not submitted any assignment. St Stephen’s has now given Suraj Sharma time of one week to complete his assignments.

No one can be spared from the rules and regulations of a college. And here he has professional pursuits at the international level. But, that cannot be a reason for the colleges of repute to relax rules. Such people can pursue their educational goals through distance mode. Or else, if they excel in their professional pursuits, many universities will offer them honorary doctorates anyway, at a later date.

He should try admission at IIPM. They will happily offer him an instant MBA degree, no attendance requirement at all. Moreover, the institution is ranked No. 1 in international exposure and coincidentally, Suraj is doing an International Film. Compulsory adherences to education related activities (attending classes, completing assignments or going to tutorials) are there for a purpose. In addition, passing a written exam is only another step to attain degree in a particular area. If non-attendees are busy in other activities, well they can apply for external degree or apply for extracurricular sports/cinema degree.

Anyhow, need not worry Suraj. Earlier, India’s U-19 cricket team captain Unmukt Chand had also run into trouble with St Stephen’s authorities due to poor attendance. He was later allowed to attend exams. So chill, even you will be allowed to write if your movie gets an Oscar……lol!
